Structural Insulated Panels to Appear on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Washington, DC – One lucky Washington-area family will soon be surprised by ABC’s Emmy-award winning reality show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The program will air as a two-hour special featuring SIPA member Winter Panel as they help construct a new energy-efficient house with structural insulated panels (SIPs) for a deserving family in just one week.
The name and location of the family home will not be released until later this month.
“Everyone at Winter Panel is very excited about this project,” said Dave Gauthier, President of Winter Panel Corp. “This is a great opportunity to showcase the speed and ease of construction with our SIPs, while at the same time helping out a family who richly deserves our show of thanks for all they have done. This family will not only be rewarded with a new home this summer, but will enjoy the energy-saving benefits of SIP construction for all the years to come.”
Gauthier and several Winter Panel staff will be providing onsite assistance to local builders Burch Builders Group LLC and G&M Contracting, Inc, who are leading the construction of the project. They will be joined by hundreds of local volunteers who will be organized by the United Way of the National Capital Area.
“SIPs really shine in this type of construction,” said SIPA Executive Director Bill Wachtler, who worked with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to incorporate SIPs into the project. “Prefabricated SIPs shave 50 percent off the normal framing time, they are excellent for a volunteer work force, and the homeowners will get an energy-efficient home that will keep their utility bills low,” he added.
More information on the project will be available later this month from the Structural Insulated Panel Association (www.sips.org), Winter Panel (http://www.winterpanel.com/), and the Burch Builders Group (http://burchbuildersgroup.com/capitalmakeover).

The date has not yet been decided. What we do know is that it will be aired during sweeps week which is around the end of November beginning of December. It will also be a 2 hour episode. As soon as we know, this will be the first place we announce it so keep checking back for more information on this project!

Cutting Edge Construction, Inc., represented by Raymond DeNuzzo, Rod Harris, Arold “Boo” Smith, and Dylan DeNuzzo, assisted in the installation of the Winter SIPs, and were able to cut back the delay time by a few hours. Structural Insulated Panels are a beautiful thing!

Congratulations to SIPA , Dave Gauthier of Winter Panel and Cutting Edge for getting this type of publicity. It has been a long time since our group has had something to rally around. I hope we will utilize this marketing to all of our advantage in this new era of green construction.

Hi,
I just saw the extreme home edition: Tripp Family Last night. I was, as ususal VERY impressed with the storline, as well as the finished product. With that said, I would like to get information on the exact name and type of wood used in the kitchen and master bedroom. This would look very nice in my home and I have been looking for that “wow” factor, and i think this is it!
Kudos to EMHE…it gets better each year, and congratulations to both the well deserving communities, The Tripp Family, and The Fishing School!
